Master of Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program

Submit your application through the Central Application System for Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDCAS). 

Applications must be completed by January 15th.  Our graduate program starts in early June.

For initial consideration, students only need to apply through Central Application System for Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDCAS).

As of 7/2023, CSDCAS charges $139 for the first program applied to and $56 for each additional program.

Individuals who need assistance covering the application fee should first submit a fee-waiver request through CSDCAS.  The qualifications and steps to complete the request are available through the CSDCAS application fees and fee waivers link.  If you do not qualify for fee-assistance through CSDCAS email our program, [email protected], to discuss alternative options.  All requests for financial assistance must be received by December 15.

You need to submit two letters of recommendation to CSDCAS.  You will provide the name and contact information for your recommenders on CSDCAS.  CSDCAS will then send the recommenders a secure link to directly submit their recommendation.

You will need to provide CSDCAS with official transcripts from all universities you have attended regardless of whether or not you received a degree from that university. Instructions on how to have your transcripts submitted to CSDCAS will be on the application. Do not try to request your transcripts prior to starting your application with CSDCAS.

You will also be required to answer a series of question related to your professional experience as well as respond to several short-essay prompts.  See application for detailed instructions, including length requirements.

MSU Denver requires that you have a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 (B or better) in your SLHS (or similar) courses. This does not include courses in science or math that are required by ASHA for certification.

If your cumulative GPA in SLHS (or similar) courses is below a 3.0, but you are still taking courses at the time of your application and anticipate that your cumulative GPA will be 3.0 or higher, you are still welcome to apply to the program. The Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) allows residents of the 17-member states/ U.S territories (Alaska, Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federal States of Micronesia, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming) to request the WRGP tuition rate for graduate programs at MSU Denver.

To be considered for the WRGP tuition rate, which is currently the same as in-state tuition, you must apply and be accepted into one of MSU Denver’s master’s programs or graduate-level certificates. Once accepted and before the census date, you must apply by completing the WRPG PDF and returning it to [email protected].

Our program also offers scholarships as well as graduate research assistantships.  Information about these opportunities will be shared with students admitted into our program.

According to the Council on Academic Accreditation’s Handbook (page 54): Candidacy status is awarded to a newly developed entry-level graduate degree program that meets all institutional and programmatic eligibility requirements, including that the program has no students currently enrolled and that it has been granted authorization through the governance process of the parent institution and the appropriate state authority to offer the graduate degree program(s) for which candidacy is sought. Candidacy status requires compliance with the Standards in a logical sequence over several years. This allows new programs to evolve over time and to secure the necessary resources to administer the program while being closely monitored by the CAA.

As stated in Standard II of the 2020 Standards for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), graduates from programs in candidacy are eligible for ASHA certification.

At this time we do not have a part time or an online option; anyone accepted to the MS SLP program will be expected to attend full time, in-person.

M.S. SLP students may choose to work while enrolled in the program, but you should not expect to be able to work full time or at a job that does not have a flexible schedule.

The M.S. SLP program at MSU Denver is 23 months or 6 consecutive semesters (summer, fall, spring), beginning with the 1^st summer and finishing in spring of your 2^nd year. You can view the course sequence here.

We admit 24 students for each new cohort.

We hope to communicate our admissions decisions by early March. This will depend on the number of applications we receive, so please be patient with us. You will receive an email informing you of your acceptance status.

In order to be considered for the MS SLP program you must have a bachelor’s degree in speech, language, hearing sciences; communication sciences and disorders; or similar.  If you do not have a bachelor’s degree in one of these areas consider our leveling certificate!
