In this introductory course, you will study Industry 4.0 digital technologies, Lean Six Sigma process improvement techniques, and the essential soft skills needed for a productive and rewarding career in manufacturing, all right from your computer. Pathway 1: Complete the Advanced Manufacturing and Workplace Preparation course and immediately enter the workforce.
- The median salary is $50,000 a year.
Pathway 2: Enhance your education and earn an undergraduate certificate in Manufacturing at MSU Denver. The Advanced Manufacturing and Workplace Preparation course can count toward the certificate’s required courses.
- The median salary is $62,500 a year.
Pathway 3: Continue your education with a bachelor’s degree in Advanced Manufacturing Sciences at MSU Denver to gain advanced skills and increase your awareness of the latest systems and innovations in the field.
- The median salary is $80,000 a year.
Alternative Pathway: Through the Colorado Advanced Manufacturing Association (CAMA), you can take an AMSI course and complete 10 hours of online learning to get a paid internship with a duration of 6 weeks, where you’ll have the opportunity to work on a real-world project and apply your new manufacturing skills.
About Our Advanced Manufacturing Course & Workplace Preparation
You will learn the “soft skills” required by the manufacturing and production industry, such as leadership, interactive communication, management, and collaboration/teamwork skills, utilizing team exercises and team activities during the process. The course also provides an introduction to Advanced Manufacturing and an overview of the Advanced Manufacturing Sciences (AMS) degree concentration’s fit and associated employment potential within Industry 4.0 and Advanced Manufacturing Industries.
The course is $450, with a $35 transaction fee per payment. There are no books to purchase.

- Course ends – April 4, 2025
Once you successfully complete the Advanced Manufacturing course, you can immediately enter the workforce with newly learned skills. You will receive a digital badge embedded with the competencies learned. You can include this badge on your resume, LinkedIn page, portfolio, or share it with an employer. Students will also receive a certificate of completion.

Through the Advanced Manufacturing Course, students will learn to:
- Identify the Industry 4.0 technologies driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution and describe their contribution to merging the digital and physical worlds into the “Factory of the Future”.
- Evaluate systems and processes, identify causes of waste and variation and apply Lean Six Sigma training and tools available for continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate effective written and oral communication, analyze and evaluate information, utilize critical thinking to inform decisions, and function effectively on a team.

Advanced Manufacturing instructor
Mark Yoss retired from Lockheed Martin Space after spending 36 years manufacturing spacecraft that are now exploring our solar system. Mark developed the curriculum for MSU Denver’s Advanced Manufacturing Sciences baccalaureate degree and helped establish the Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute.
