About This Program

MSU Denver’s new bachelor of arts degree in Construction Project Management is a multidisciplinary major that will give you a step up to the management level in the booming construction industry.

As a Construction Project Management student, you will study topics in civil engineering technology, management, advanced manufacturing science, computer information systems and technical communication. You can also choose to focus your degree on either Computer Information Systems or Management.

General studies courses are, in most instances, specified to broaden your skills for a successful career in Construction Project Management. For instance, the six required general studies credit hours in the arts and humanities are met by taking the philosophy courses, business ethics and computers, ethics and society.

This multi-disciplinary major created to support a workforce initiative for the Construction Industries. A Minor is required. (Minors may not include those with the following prefixes: ACC, CIS, FIN, MKT, MGT) Students should consult with an advisor prior to selecting their minor. Recommended minors are- Architecture, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Environmental Studies, Leadership Studies and Spanish.

Students with a completed U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Apprenticeship (OA) four-year Registered Construction Trades Apprenticeship and journeyman’s credentials are awarded a block of 30 lower division semester credits that may be used in lieu of the required minor.

Apprenticeship credits are only applicable for the CPM major and may not be utilized in any other way at MSU Denver.

Mission

Construction Project Management is an interdisciplinary major created to support a workforce initiative for the fast-growing industry of construction. This program offers core classes along with a concentration in Computer Information Systems or Management. There is an opportunity to receive apprenticeship credits that you can use in lieu of a minor.

MSU Denver’s Aerospace and Engineering Sciences Building (AES) offers an innovative approach to advanced manufacturing education by blending the disciplines of Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Science, Aviation Technology, Industrial Design, Computer Science and Computer Information Systems.

This dynamic learning space integrates product development with collaborative design and research and provides students with advanced technology opportunities and experiential laboratories.

York Space Systems, an American aerospace company founded by alumni from NASA, Lockheed Martin, Orbital ATK and Ball Aerospace, houses its design team, production facilities and Mission Operations Center in the AES building, providing students in the coordinated disciplines unique learning opportunities and real-world experiences.

You can also take advantage of four active Engineering-related student groups (two that are specific to Civil Engineering) including the student branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Benefits of Earning Your Degree at MSU Denver

Internships will play a big role in your Construction Project Management education, with nine to 12 credit hours in an industry internship required unless you have been awarded journeyman’s credentials after completing the four-year Registered Construction Trades Apprenticeship from the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship.

Construction Project Managers earned a median annual salary of $89,300 in 2016, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook. In Colorado, the annual mean salary was $92,370.
