Most School of Education programs have a unique and/or supplemental application process. Please read below to begin this process, depending on the program in which you wish to enroll.
If you are seeking a bachelor’s degree, or if you have already completed a bachelor’s degree and are interested in taking undergraduate classes to earn teacher licensure (we call this post-baccalaureate teacher licensure), please review the steps for Undergraduate Programs.
If you have completed (or will soon complete) a bachelor’s degree and you are interested in joining one of our master’s degree or graduate certificate programs, please review the steps for Graduate Programs.
Applying to Undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate Programs

You must apply through the university admission system and be accepted as a student at MSU Denver before you can complete your application to a School of Education program.

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION UNDERGRADUATE AND POST-BACCALAUREATE APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN YEAR-ROUND
If your application is submitted later than one week prior to the beginning of the semester, we cannot guarantee you will be accepted in time to begin classes.
Please note: if you would like to reapply to or withdraw from a School of Education undergraduate or post-baccalaureate program, please refer to the appropriate section below.
UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
In order to be formally admitted to the School of Education at the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate level, all prospective students must complete or meet the following requirements:
- SCHOOL OF EDUCATION APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION – Completed application includes the Criminal History Agreement, Admission Handbook Information Checklist and the Workers’ Compensation Procedures. Please see the Admissions Handbook for details.
- GPA* – Minimum 2.5 GPA (or higher) with 30 semester hours of credit completed or in progress.
*Students who do not meet this requirement can be provisionally admitted to the School of Education until the requirement is met.
HOW TO APPLY:
STEP 1: Meet with the appropriate advisor(s) – see the Admissions Handbook for details.
STEP 2: Read and review the Admissions Handbook (link below).
STEP 3: Complete the online application (link below).
NEXT STEPS: Submitted applications will typically be processed within 2 weeks of the submission date. Please plan accordingly if you need admission status to register for classes. Once processed, students will receive an acceptance email at their MSU Denver email address.
REAPPLY TO OR WITHDRAW FROM A SCHOOL OF EDUCATION PROGRAM
(Undergraduate/Post-baccalaureate Only)
If you were previously accepted to a School of Education undergraduate or post-baccalaureate program, and you have since become inactive with the university and were required to reapply to the university to attend again, you must submit a new application to the School of Education using the information above on this page.

To apply to a School of Education graduate program, you will submit a graduate application through the university’s standard application system. You will select your program during that process, and you will be presented with the unique requirements specific to that program.
Before you begin an application, it is important to review the program information and admission requirements below so you are prepared with the materials needed to complete the application.

Graduate Admission Requirements
In order to apply to the Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Students must indicate completion of an undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 2.50.
In addition to the above requirement, applicants must submit the following materials:
- Completed MSU Denver Graduate Application
- Graduate Application Fee
- Normally $50, there is no graduate application fee between October 1, 2023 and October 1, 2024!
- ALL official transcripts. (Please note: you do not need to provide MSU Denver transcripts if you attended here in the past)
- Electronic submission is the preferred method. Have official electronic transcripts sent directly from the institution to: [email protected]

Supplemental Documents (uploaded as part of the MSU Denver Graduate Application):
- Detailed 2-page Letter of Intent (double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-pt font) that describes your reasons for interest in the M.Ed. Program, and in particular your concentration area (Trauma-Informed Practices or Inclusive Practices) and the current educational context for the application of coursework in this program. Describe how well you, your experiences, and your hopes align with the School of Education’s mission and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statement.
- Two (2) letters of support/recommendation that demonstrate readiness for graduate level coursework, professional dispositions, and commitment to innovation in the field of education.
- You will need to provide the email addresses and other details (name, title, relationship, phone #, etc.) of two personal or professional references .
- These people will receive a request to submit a recommendation letter directly to our application system.
- You will be able to include a personal message to your references during the application submission process.
In order to apply to the MAT program for Special Education or Elementary Education, applicants must meet the following requirement:
- Students must indicate completion of a degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. If a candidate holds a GPA lower than 3.0, alternative options to meet this requirement can be discussed with the Director of Graduate Programs in the School of Education. Feel free to request an appointment, or our graduate team will contact you after your application has been submitted if this discussion is warranted.
In addition to the above requirement, applicants must submit the following materials:

- Graduate Application Fee
- Normally $50, there is no graduate application fee between October 1, 2023 and October 1, 2024!

- Personal Statement – Please submit a personal statement addressing the points below. Submissions must be two pages, double-spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font, and with one-inch margins. Document must be must be .PDF or .DOC/.DOCX format. Please note: applicants who are applying for the Autism & Significant Support Needs Certificate concurrently with a Master of Arts in Teaching program should combine their personal statements for both programs, and the length of the combined statements should be 3 pages total and should specifically address both programs.
- Your reason for pursuing this degree and licensure.
- Your experiences and/or qualities that will benefit you as you pursue this degree and licensure.
- Your reason for pursuing this degree and licensure at MSU Denver, specifically.
- Professional Recommendation – you will need to provide the email address and other details (name, title, relationship, phone #, etc.) of one professional reference (current or former employer, current or former university instructor, etc.).
- This person will receive a request to submit a recommendation letter directly to our application system.
- You will be able to include a personal message to your reference during the application submission process.

- Students must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must submit the following materials:

In order to be accepted as a non-degree-seeking graduate student in the School of Education, applicants must meet the following requirement:
- Applicants must have completed a baccalaureate degree at a regionally accredited institution and must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA or a GPA from the last 30 hours completed of 3.00 or higher.
In addition to the above requirement, non-degree-seeking applicants must submit the following materials:
- Completed MSU Denver Graduate Application
- Graduate Application Fee
- Normally $50, there is no graduate application fee between October 1, 2023 and October 1, 2024!
